Nature has this deep and magical way of always making our appreciation and presence feel so welcome. Through both our bad times and the good; certain areas in the landscape can have so many sentimental values for people. This morning walk to my local woods made my return feel so warmly and softly welcomed. It has been a place of mine since childhood; been there through some of my biggest struggles and encouraging moments in life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>SOOTHING STRAWBERRY GROVE... Fine line pen and Inks on A3 watercolour paper. Inspired by own photo from Strawberry Grove, Guildford, Surrey, UK. Tranquillity and inner connections with nature do not always have to be places found in the most remote places or across the other side of the world. The beauty and power of nature can still be found close to estates and towns. This small isolated woodland that has watched the neighbouring estates and industrial areas expand as far back as I can remember; yet still has so much calmness, beauty and connections to nature to offer. No matter what I have been through in life; it has always been there for me when I needed it the most, and I have no doubt for many others too.</image:caption>

Beautiful warm and vibrant colours as leaves begin to change as I look up and around the tree canopy, and when I stop to look closely down upon the ground; many different fungi types grow. Various natural forms and colours, so sculptural and unique in appearance. I created a collage using recycled materials in the form of fungi. Times when natural energy can appear and feel so soft, delicate and gentle; where it can even be hard to notice at a quick glance. Other times when nature can seem as if it has just energetically and uncontrollably awoken in so many different ways. A night of strong winds and rain along the coastline; yet it felt refreshing being out experiencing it. Yet despite this it appeared so beautiful and intriguing to the eye, and as I looked at it during this moment; it still appeared as if it was making the most of reaching for and pointing to the stars. Processed in Black and white had this way of further increasing the visual contrast as the old tree seemed to be reaching for light amongst the dark. Isle of Wight, UK</image:caption>

I had temporarily left life in town behind; modern life stresses felt as if they had been absorbed and comforted by the mist itself too. This wonderful hill on the Chantries temporarily felt like a scene from a fairytale on this night; a pure place of tranquillity.</image:caption>

I can honestly say it is a woods that I can never get bored of visiting; such character and such a relaxing place to be. The more I visit the more I feel a place of belonging. Time to temporarily step aside, stop in our tracks and allow our minds to freely process our journeys through life. Spending time under the stars can be so deeply therapeutic, freeing and a reminder just how healing time in nature can be; day or night.</image:caption>

<image:caption>TIME GOES BY Chantry Woods, Guildford, Surrey, UK. Nights spent under the stars outside of town can have a way of completely absorbing and captivating your thoughts. Stay in a location long enough at night; and you too become part of it; a shadow equally absorbed by nature itself as it sits under the vastness of a night sky. Your eyes start to notice the delicate flickering of light, sometimes slight changes in colour of the stars themselves as they continuously twinkle across the night sky. Yet, what becomes hard to notice as you truly feel at one and at ease with the environment; is just how much the stars move across the sky in just 5 minutes. They always say special moments can pass us by so quickly and from my own personal experiences; being under the stars is certainly one of them!</image:caption>

It has this way of soothing and comforting us; in such a way we always feel so welcomed and at peace when surrounded by nature. Moments when golden sunbeams piercing a canopy of trees can appear like something from a deep tranquil dream; magic amongst normality. This woodland has always been there for me through out my life; times of wonder and fascination, times in need for inspiration both in life and my own journey with art, times in need of peaceful solitude, during times of distress, upset and uncertainty. The magic of this small common land woods still stands despite the ever-growing neighbouring estate and industrial park, and although not the highest rated place to visit; it shall always be one of the most important places to me and I’m sure many others too! The ground itself was what felt like a softening warm carpet under a blanket of overhanging multiple colours and tones of autumn foliage. It’s amazing how creative imagination can also be sparked during such a thought-provoking scene captured in nature. <image:caption>ECHOES OF RESILIENCE The weathered characteristics of the cliffs and scattered rocks just seemed to be sitting so proudly under the forces of nature during the low tide on this night. Orion, despite the broken clouds, seemed to shine through proudly as if protecting the landscape himself. On a personal note; this also became a personal achievement for me. I can’t drive due to my medical background so making it to this location on my own, just me and the camera became a reminder that pursuing my passion for the landscape and photography was worth going through the pain for. The beauty of nature can mean so much to people. Luccombe Bay, Isle of Wight, UK.</image:caption>

Other times when nature can seem as if it has just energetically and uncontrollably awoken in so many different ways. Sometimes there will be moments in life where we must travel or tackle it on our own. Deep within our heart we know it is a journey we must take; a light we must chase amongst the darkness of uncertainty. Life can so often challenge us in most unpredictable of ways. Yet as I have learnt, and I’m sure many others too; we often tend to learn so much about ourself, about life, when we see the storm through. We must calmy ride the waves we encounter along the way. Yet so important to keep focusing on the here and now to ensure we are moving on a personal journey that leads us to a light we are seeking. <image:caption>St CATHERINES LOCK PATH TO THE MILKY WAY St Catherines Lock, Guildford, Surrey, UK. The path had directly led my eyes to the Milky way which was trying so hard to be seen faintly against the sky bleeding lights of nearby towns. They say that not everything in life is a straight forward path; twists and turns, unforeseen obstacles that will always arise when chasing a dream in life. Even if the dream is hard to clearly see; keep following the path and you will eventually arrive at your destination. Even the faintest and smallest beacons of light can provide you so much hope if you’re willing to pursue it.</image:caption>

No breeze and a faint mist that had begun to slowly rise seemed to further soften the surrounding atmosphere on this moonlit night along the banks of the River Wey.</image:caption>

<image:caption>WEEPING WONDROUSLY UNDER MOONLIGHT River Wey, Guildford, Surrey, UK. On this fresh moonlit night my eyes were caught by the line off willow trees; all looked as they were in rhythm and performing a dance along the banks of the river. Nature has this magical way of portraying such fluent energy; even if at first glance it all just appears still. It may have been a cold night; but I couldn’t help feel this touch of warmth seeing this with the willows.</image:caption>

These unique individual trees appeared as if they were reaching for the calmness of the gentle flowing river on this bright moonlit night. The atmosphere itself feeling as if it may be a snippet from the past before urbanisation even existed; where a deep sense of stillness across this landscape made the whole scene so tranquil and emotionally uplifting.</image:caption>

<image:caption>1st Year studio sculptures and installations.... The process of deconstruction – reconstruction had echoed through my work both on-site and in the studio. Where did the materials come from and what shapes and forms respected the materials characteristics. I also found the installations bought a sense of natural warmth and comfort into the studio space. All the bark was from decaying fallen trees from my local common where a lot of my first year’s location work had been explored.</image:caption>
